Student and Family Advocacy

Advocacy is a partnership between the advocate and the family to ensure that both the family and the child receive the needed support, education, and resources to address academic, social, psychological and emotional obstacles and achieve success.

  • Provide an effective voice for children who face obstacles in school

  • Serve as a collaborative and dedicated member of the student’s team to ensure the student receives the best support services

  • Supply support in a case management style and act as a liaison between family and school officials and administration

  • Work to improve the student’s social, psychological, and academic functioning and maximize family well-being

  • Offer individual parent coaching

  • Educate and mentor family members about interventions and available options

  • Explain available support services and help identify those which align with student's needs

  • Assist parents with correspondence with the school and accompany parents to school meetings, including IEP, CST and 504 meetings

  • Identify and help to implement emotional support and practical solutions
